It’s an automatic going by the pic

Automatic true
, but seeing any 80s Renault in that shape in Canada is mind-blowing, lol...they are usually long gone from being Swiss cheese by now!
Automatic, yeah, but at $1795 CAD (that’s only $1300 USD), if the body and underside were fairly straight and not too far gone, it’s a pretty cheap project car in decent shape and I imagine a manual swap wouldn’t be too hard!

Yeah that’s a fire-sale price :p
Canvas sunroofs are awesome

An acquaintance had one when I was in college, he called it the "no-go"

Does it have a turbo zone??

Reminds me of a VB Commodore from the front

I do not believe so :P

I am sure there is a reason that price is so low...but I want it anyway :P

Especially with the auto trans, I imagine...but I figure a manual swap wouldn’t be too hard!

The slushbox is regrettable, so it might be more of a Fue-NO for me. Or maybe a Re-NO GO!
But wait, is that. . . is that a fabric sunroof!?!?!?! There doesn’t appear to be much rust and with that level of rarity and intact interior/exterior/engine (presumably), my superior Ameribucks might just make this tempting for a gearbox swap. I wonder what the parts availability is like on these in their home co untry?

Maybe some EurOppos would have a better idea -
I’ll re-post it tomorrow morning as for a lot of them it’s like...midnight...
now :P

It seems that the gearboxes from almost all Renault of the era (for almost 20 years) are of the same family as stated here , it would be compatible with at least R9, R11, R18 (the Fuego and R18 share the same floorplan and drivetrain), R20, R25 gearboxes if i am not mistaken and maybe Espace 1 and 2 and some old Trafic (van).
It seems that the 5 speed are also called NG3 that would have these gearing ratios :
3,81 2,17 1,40 1,03 0,86 // 3,08
.
A photo album with comparison between 3 different gearboxes (one 4 speed and two 5 speed) and various schematics and pictures but i dont know on which car .
From this R25 forum there is a nice table with a comparison of various NG3 ( some are for electronic speed sensor and other for mecanical cable ones) :
And it seems that you can still find brand new gear linkage parts.
A guide in French on how to change the gearbox

When I was around 5 years old, for some reason I thought these were hot stuff. I even had a poster of one, given to me by the local dealer. Haven’t seen one on the road here in maybe a decade - and I suspect they lasted here far longer than in most places.
This one looks like a labor of love - I smell rust, I see minor body damage, and I suspect the transmission is made of glass. Hopefully at least it helps another live on rather than waste away, if someone doesn’t rescue it.

I never said it was perfect :P

So I had to look this up, I knew the Fuego was based on some more run of the mill Renault. It was the 18, that was sold in Canada and the United States (I sure don’t remember) as well as Europe, of course . Anyway, there ought to be manual transmissions out there somewhere, but maybe not real nearby.

Oh, nice! Seems like it would really be too hard to swap it out then maybe! :)

Yeah, but I don’t think they’d be a rarity.
T
his one is just in surprisingly decent looking shape for a Canada car!

It was also produced in Argentina and sold there years after it ended in Europe and with the devaluation of the peso they are dirt cheap.
They seems to be around 500USD for most listed on this site (i hadto disable uBlock on it to be able to open pages) : http://www.autos.com.ar/renault%20fuego-M325O334
FYI 30.000 ARS = ~450 USD.
Unfortunately it seems that they didnt get the
turbo and the diesel
version
.
